Pastor Steve Palmer was born in Kingston of a Cuban Mother and a Jamaican Father. He is the last of six children. He went to St Jude Primary School in Kingston. He then relocated to St James at the age of seven where he was raised in Orange Mountain by his Aunt Mrs Pearly Reid and his grandmother Mrs Mable Haughton who was one of the founders of the Vaunghsfield SDA Church. Pastor Palmer attended the Maldon Primary and Secondary Schools. He was baptised at the age of 16 in the Carlton SDA Church and a week after his baptism he went to England to Join his mother and the rest of his siblings. Pastor Steve is the only Seventh day Adventist among his siblings. On becoming a S.D.A he felt the call to Pastoral Ministry. Prior to entering the Ministry he was a kitchen Porter and a Gardner.
He attended college where he achieved 8 ‘O’ levels and 2 ‘A’ Levels.
He continued his studies at the Seventh Day Adventist Seminary in England i.e Newbold College where he received a Diploma and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. He subsequently attended Andrews University in the USA where he completed a Master of Arts in “Systematic Theology and Old Testament”. He has a double Masters in Theology and Ministry from the University of Sheffield in the area of “youth and inter-generational tension”. He also holds a Master of Ministry Degree from the University of Derby in the area of “Youth identity conflict and stages faith”. He is about to complete a Master of Philosophy at the University of Birmingham in the area of Pastoral leadership in cross-cultural congregations. Recently he matriculated into a Doctor of Minister program at the University of Wales in the area Pastoral expectation from different cultural groups. He also holds a Certificate in teaching adults and a Certificate in work place chaplaincy.
Pastor Palmer has been in full time Pastoral Ministry for 22 years. During these years he has ministered in 20 Churches. For eight of those years he served as the Youth Director and Student chaplain of the North England Conference. Presently he is the Pastor of three Congregations in Birmingham and serves as the ministerial coordinator in that area. He is one of the visiting lecturers at Northern Caribbean University. Pastor Palmer served as one of the Governors on the Harper Bell Seventh Day Adventist School Board. He is also a Hospital Chaplain at the Women’s Hospital in Birmingham. He enjoys preaching & teaching and has had the privilege of preaching in the U.S.A, Jamaica, Canada, Bermuda, Ghana, Holland, Barbados, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Croatia, Norway and throughout the British Isles. He is the founder of the Youth Prayer Conference and Schools of the Prophets in the UK.
He is married to the former Andrea Williams who is a Registered Nurse. They have been blessed with two beautiful daughters Zoë-Maria Mae and Aryanne Precious. Pastor Palmer enjoys reading, travelling, studying, playing cricket, football, athletics and socialising. His ultimate goal is to return to Jamaica in 2018 (if Jesus does not return by then) to give back by way of some of the skills he has acquired. In order to add value and make a difference to the country of his birth; One of his goals is to lecture at the Adventist University in Jamaica. He also has a vision to build a centre to train young leaders to serve the church and the wider community in Jamaica. The primary purpose is that Gods Kingdom can progress and the unsaved can be reached and be prepared for the second coming of Jesus.
